Because space is limited in our (almost) 1100 s.f. home, and because I have a tiny helper with an ever-increasing reach and little impulse control, my husband came up with the idea to use wall-mounted shelving for my craft area.
The shelf that serves as the work surface is about 20" deep and the 18" brackets that hold it are adjustable to any height, so I can work comfortably and I can leave my materials out without worrying about tiny hands getting hold of them. I found that I preferred to stand while working, even when I was using a regular table, so this has worked out perfectly.
The 12"-deep shelves above the work surface and the Ikea lockers hold my tools and supplies (anything potentially dangerous stays locked up in the lockers... just in case) and my Ott lamp and iPad charging station plug into a power strip on one of the shelves. Everything I need is right at my fingertips and safely out of the way at the same time.
